DESCRIPTION:The negotiation of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Part
nership (TTIP) has dramatised legal controversies around investor-state di
spute resolution mechanisms. The European Commission's ambitious proposal
for an Investor Court System also highlights potential conflicts between\,
on the one hand\, structures and mechanisms for investor-state dispute re
solution\, and on the other hand\, the EU legal order and its judicial ar
chitecture. In her 2016 Mackenzie-Stuart Lecture\, Advocate General Julian
e Kokott will analyse current practices and future trends in investment ar
bitration and the legal conflicts they may create on three levels: intra-E
U bilateral investment treaties (BITs)\; extra-EU BITs between the Member
States and third countries\; and future BITs between the EU and non-Member
  States.
