SUMMARY:Post-blast explosive residue: Morphological\, chemical and computa
tional studies - Nadia Abdul-Karim\, Security Science Doctoral Research Tr
 aining Centre\, University College London

DESCRIPTION:Few studies have previously attempted to establish the nature
of chemical evidence that can remain following detonation\, with the major
ity focusing instead on developing methods for trace explosives analysis.
In this talk\, the findings from detonations of improvised and military ex
plosive charges will be outlined\, in particular that each produces morpho
logically distinct post-blast explosive residues that disperse uniquely ar
ound detonation centres. Methods of combining experimental and computation
al modelling techniques within this field are explained\, and the benefits
of doing so for the development of post-blast crime scene investigation a
 re highlighted.
