DESCRIPTION:*Safety\, Effectiveness\, and Design in Healthcare*\n\n"Sign u
 p for free tickets":https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/from-robotics-to-patien
 t-care-tickets-21685576142\n\nJust over a year ago\, an article appeared o
n Medium titled "How Bad UX Killed Jenny":https://medium.com/tragic-design
 /how-bad-ux-killed-jenny-ef915419879e#.4q4v5a458\, discussing how an error
associated with a software UI resulted in the healthcare system completel
y failing a patient.\nUnfortunately\, the realities of the event the artic
le describes are a bit more complicated than it leads the reader to believ
e - Bad UX didn't really kill Jenny\, it was the healthcare system. But do
n't panic\, a lot of very clever people are working very hard to prevent t
hese things from happening in the future.\n\nThis talk will give an overvi
ew of Usability\, how it pertains to designing for the healthcare system (
specifically medical devices) and why your next trip to the hospital proba
bly won't kill you\, all from the perspective of a medical device design e
ngineer with a penchant for Human/User/Patient-centred design processes an
 d a dislike of traditional engineering thinking.\n\n*About the speaker\, J
eremy Kooyman*\n\nJeremy is a Medical Device Design Engineer with one of t
he many Cambridge-Cluster design consultancies. His interests include medi
cal robotics\, drug delivery devices\, and trying to figure out why everyo
ne wants iPhone apps for their medical products. When he's not being an en
 gineer\, he's probably climbing something\, riding a bike\, or ignoring hi
s blog.\n\n*Sponsors and thanks*\n\nWe are very grateful to Microsoft Rese
arch Cambridge for hosting this event and providing nibbles and drinks\, a
nd to Red Gate Software and Cambridge Consultants for sponsoring beers and
pizza respectively at the Salisbury Arms\, after the event.\n
