DESCRIPTION:Dr Max Roser has been described as “the data-driven optimist
 ” for his work on the evolution of living standards around the world. Hi
 s research is concerned with inclusive and sustainable growth\, and the in
 equality of living conditions between world citizens. He will be giving a 
 talk on his interest and work towards understanding and eradicating world 
 poverty.\n\nDr Roser is an economist working at the University of Oxford. 
 His research is concerned with inclusive and sustainable growth\, and the 
 inequality of living conditions between world citizens. These interests da
 te back to his time as an undergraduate\, when he studied philosophy and g
 eoscience in addition to economics.\n\nHe publishes his work in two ways: 
 through open-access web publications and academic journals. In 2011 he sta
 rted his web publication OurWorldInData.org. On this site he deals with th
 e social\, economic\, and environmental history of our world up to the pre
 sent day. The publication presents empirical research and interactive data
  visualisations based on a wide rage of academic sources and disciplines. 
 He has also created The Chartbook of Economic Inequality\, which visualise
 s how inequality has changed over the last 100 years in 30 countries.\n\nM
 ax has a BSc in geoscience\, a BA and an MA in philosophy\, an MSc in econ
 omics\, and a doctorate from the University of Innsbruck\, Austria. He has
  done consultancy work for institutions such as the World Bank and the Glo
 bal Fund. His work has been covered in media outlets including The New Yor
 k Times\, The Financial Times\, Business Insider\, TIME Magazine\, The Was
 hington Post\, Forbes\, Slate\, Vox\, The Guardian\, Rue 89\, La Presse (F
 rench)\, and Süddeutsche Zeitung (German).
