isturbance recreate suitable habitat for HNV species? - Tim Kasoar - Depar

DESCRIPTION:Certain cultural landscapes have been identified as ‘High Na
ture Value’ (HNV) – areas that support high species and habitat divers
ity\, or species of conservation concern. It has been suggested that HNV l
andscapes favour certain species because their management mimics natural d
isturbance processes. In the face of declines in HNV farming it has theref
ore been suggested that “rewilding” – restoring natural disturbance
processes – could be a valuable tool for conserving HNV species. I teste
d this idea by examining whether flood-disturbed systems provide suitable
habitat for HNV species in the Pripyat-Stokhid National Nature Park in Ukr
 aine.
