DESCRIPTION:An increasingly studied class of systems comprise colloidal pa
rticles\nthat move by self-propulsion rather than Brownian motion. Such\nd
ynamics violates time-reversal symmetry at the microscale\,\nundermining o
ne of the pillars on which equilibrium thermodynamics is\nbuilt. What rema
ins? I will address this question in the specific\ncontext of calculating
the pressure of a system of active particles\,\ndefined as the force per u
nit area on a confining wall.
