DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, I will give an overview of the Astropy project\
, a community effort to develop a single core package for Astronomy in Pyt
hon and foster interoperability between Python astronomy packages. This pr
oject has become the largest open-source project in Astronomy in the space
of only a few years\, having brought together over 150 contributors from
many different countries. In addition to talking about available and plann
ed functionality\, I will talk about the process of how the project came i
nto existence and has become sustainable\, and the factors that have made
such a collaboration possible. I will also talk more broadly about how the
field of software development and data analysis in Astronomy is changing\
, and the implications these changes are having on how we think about care
 er tracks within Science.
