DESCRIPTION:The Proctors are among the most ancient Offices in the Univers
ity\, with duties ranging from the oversight of University examinations\,
discipline of members of the University\, and play an integral part of the
conferring of degrees and other ceremonial events. \n\nDressed in the dis
tinctive garb of a traditional Master of Arts\, they are often seen around
the University\, sometimes accompanied by their Constables\, or bulldogs.
The Constabulary was formed in 1825\, making it the oldest police force\,
and still has the right to bear arms within the Precincts of the Universi
ty.\n\nThis year's Senior Proctor\, David Goode\, will give an illustrated
and entertaining talk about the Proctors and the Constables through histo
 ry.
