DESCRIPTION:Today\, IPv6-enabled constrained devices (such as sensors and\
nactuators) are being connected to the Internet. However\, such an\nachiev
ement has required significant efforts from several IETF working \ngroups
for over a decade. In parallel\, the range of standardized wireless (and w
ired) interfaces for low-rate\, low-energy operation has not yet ceased to
increase.\nIn this talk\, I present an overview of the protocol suite dev
eloped by the\nIETF for connecting things to the Internet\, together with
the radio (and\nwired) technologies currently supported. I also highlight
a set of past\,\ncurrent\, and potentially future related research and sta
ndardization\ntopics.\n\nBio: Carles Gomez Montenegro received his PhD in
network engineering from\nUniversitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in 2
 007. He is an associate\nprofessor at the same university. His research wo
rk has focused on\nwireless Internet access\, wireless multihop networks\,
sensor networks and\nthe Internet of things. He is coauthor of more than
80 technical\ncontributions\, including papers published in journals and c
onferences\, a\nbook on wireless sensor networks\, and 8 Internet Engineer
ing Task Force\n(IETF) documents. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of
Ambient\nIntelligence and Smart Environments. He is currently a Visiting
Scholar at\nthe Computer Laboratory of the University of Cambridge\, under
the supervision of Prof. Jon Crowcroft.
