onal waves from a binary black hole merger - Alberto Vecchio (University B

DESCRIPTION:On September 14\, 2015 the two instruments of the Laser Inter
ferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) observed a gravitational w
ave transient that has been associated to the coalescence of a binary blac
k hole. I will describe the history of the discovery\, the physical proper
ties that we have inferred about the source and the implications for our u
nderstanding of the underlying astrophysical population.
