DESCRIPTION:Edward Carson was one of the most significant figures in Edwar
dian politics. A champion of the United Kingdom and the Empire against wha
t he perceived as the threat of Irish separatism\, Carson played a signifi
cant role in radicalising both the Home Rule crisis and the Ulster Unionis
t response to it. On the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising\, which made
the end of the UK as it then stood inevitable\, this paper revisits Carson
 's views\, personality and legacy.\n
