DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, I will discuss complex numbers and complex anal
 ysis from a mathematician’s perspective. I will discuss how to understan
 d complex numbers both algebraically and geometrically. We will see eviden
 ce of their inevitability and I will point out why that is a very\, very g
 ood thing. From there\, we will delve into (or lightly touch on) applicati
 ons in math\, physics\, engineering\, biology\, etc. At this point\, we wi
 ll have a grounded understanding of complex numbers’ place in the panthe
 on\, along with several remarkable and powerful applications. From there\,
  I will pivot towards the types of problems that I work on. No background 
 beyond familiarity with elementary school geometry and the words sine and 
 cosine will be assumed.\n
