DESCRIPTION:Abstract: When we reason inductively\, we decide what is likel
y given what we already know about the world. In this talk I will describe
an account of how associative and structured knowledge drive category-bas
ed inductive reasoning\, and present results from experimental\, individua
l differences and mouse tracking studies that confirm predictions derived
from the account.\n\nBio: Aidan Feeney graduated from Trinity College Dubl
in with a degree in Psychology and completed a PhD in the Centre for Think
ing and Language at the University of Plymouth supervised by Jonathan Evan
 s. After 11 years in the Department of Psychology at Durham he moved to Qu
een's University Belfast in 2009 where he carries out research on how chil
dren and adults reason about categories\, how regret relates to decision m
aking\, and how best to advise people with problem debts.
