DESCRIPTION:Organization studies researchers have traditionally been good
at importing ideas from other areas of research but poor at exporting thei
r own ideas to other fields. And even within the field of organization stu
dies\, interest in organizations has decreased over the past decades as or
ganization scholars have turned away from organizations to address such ot
her phenomena as institutions or networks. Both developments are undermini
ng the significance of organization studies as a distinctive field of rese
arch\, the insights of which are necessary for understanding modern societ
 y. In order to strengthen concern for the particularities of organization
in social theorizing\, decisions should be moved back to the core of the f
ield and the notion of organization should be extended beyond organization
s.\n\nAll are welcome to attend!\nFree light lunch provided!\n\nBio:\nNils
Brunsson is professor of management at Uppsala University and is affiliat
ed to (and a co-founder of) Score (Stockholm Centre for Organizational Res
earch). From 1986 to 2010 he held a chair in management at the Stockholm S
chool of Economics. He has published around 30 books in the field of organ
ization studies (including Mechanisms of Hope\, The Consequences of Decisi
on-Making\, Meta-Organizations (with G. Ahrne) and Reform as Routine) as w
ell as numerous articles. He has studied decision-making\, administrative
reform and standardization. His current research interests include the org
 anization of markets\, partial organization\, meta-organizations and the c
onstruction of competition. At present he is leading a research program on
the organization of markets.\n\nNils Brunsson has received several awards
\, he has held the Niklas Luhmann Gastprofessur in Bielefeld\, received th
e Swedish Research Council’s grant for excellent scholars and he is an h
