DESCRIPTION:The circumstances under which certain forms of stress-related 
 reactions lead to general decreases in physiological activity\, namely vas
 ovagal reactions\, will be discussed.  Vasovagal reactions have an importa
 nt impact on the medical system\, deterring people from various procedures
 \, affecting the blood supply\, as well as providing a theoretical challen
 ge.  A series of experimental studies will be discussed\, examining variou
 s predictors\, mechanisms\, a novel theory\, and specific methods of inter
 vention.  Relatedly\, this research also concerns the bodily states and pe
 ripheral physiological correlates of emotion linked to adaptive behaviour\
 , examining both similarities and differences in stress-related responses 
 produced by different kinds of environmental challenges.
