DESCRIPTION:Genetically identical cells exhibit variability in gene expres
sion due to inherent stochasticity in biochemical reactions. In this sem
inar\, I describe a multi-scale approach that includes modelling cell gr
owth\, division and proliferation in addition to stochastic gene express
ion inside individual cells. I then discuss three short stories that use
s this approach. Firstly\, how cell growth rate regulates gene expressio
n noise\, secondly\, how does expression of fitness inducing gene is
shaped by proliferation and finally how to infer parameters of gene expre
 ssion from single cell data.
