DESCRIPTION:I'm practicing my talk for the upcoming EuroVis conference - p
lease come along! I'm looking forwards to any form of feedback :)\n\n*Abst
ract:*\nDiscussions between data analysts and colleagues or clients with n
o statistical background are difficult\, as the analyst often has\nto teac
h and explain their statistical and domain knowledge. We investigate work
practices of data analysts who collaborate\nwith non-experts\, and report
findings regarding types of analysis\, collaboration and availability of d
ata. Based on these\, we have\ncreated a tool to enhance collaboration bet
ween data analysts and their clients in the initial stages of the analytic
al process.\nSketching time series data allows analysts to discuss expecta
tions for later analysis. We propose function composition rather\nthan fre
ehand sketching\, in order to structure the analyst-client conversation by
independently expressing expected features in\nthe data. We evaluate the
usability of our prototype through two small studies\, and report on user
 feedback for future iterations.
