DESCRIPTION:*Better technology for the refugee crisis*\nThe conference wil
 l bring together developers\, designers\, refugees and NGOs in a collabora
 tive process to identify and plan technology solutions to some of the prob
 lems which threaten the safety of refugees.\n\n*Conference theme: improvin
 g refugee camps and refugee data security*\nFor this first conference\, we
  will focus on the theme of refugee camps\, with consideration given to ho
 w we can improve internet/local network connectivity\, data security & pri
 vacy and personal empowerment (improving access to training/education/jobs
 ).\n\n*Challenges*\nWe will be introducing a number of challenges for dele
 gates\, with a workshop to brainstorm and investigate each one. They will 
 include a challenge to improve data management for volunteers and deliveri
 es at the l'Auberge des Migrants warehouse in Calais\, and a challenge to 
 deliver mobile internet and education to Northern Europe through a special
 ised van. More challenges to be announced nearer the date.\n\n*Speakers*\n
 Hassan Akkad - A Syrian refugee who spent two months in the Calais camp\, 
 speaking about his journey.\nEvert Bopp - CEO of Disaster Tech Labs.\nRach
 el Mantell - An admin of Calais People 2 People solidarity\, speaking abou
 t social media and the crisis.\nDr Arjuna Saithaseelan - Lead of the Netwo
 rking for Development lab at the university\, on Internet access.
