DESCRIPTION:One of the most active areas of network science\, with an expl
osion of publications during the last few years\, is the study of "multil
ayer networks\," in which heterogeneous types of entities can be connecte
d via multiple types of ties that change in time. Multilayer networks can
include multiple subsystems and "layers" of connectivity\, and it is imp
ortant to take multilayer features into account to try to improve our und
erstanding of complex systems. In this talk\, I&#39\;ll give an introduct
ion to multilayer networks and will discuss applications in areas such as
  transportation\, sociology\, neuroscience\, and ecology. <br><br>Related
