DESCRIPTION:\nThe geology of building stones is often overlooked by the ac
ademic\ncommunity and tends to be dismissed as nothing more than an outrea
ch\nactivity\; what remains in a quarry is of more interest than what has
been\nremoved. This talk aims to change that view and highlight the import
ance\nof stone in architecture and cultural heritage. A knowledge of build
ing\nand decorative stones can lead to unexpected career paths both in ind
 ustry\nand in cross-disciplinary research.\n\nAll welcome to attend\, free
for members of the Sedgwick Club\, £2 for non-members. Refreshments prov
 ided!
