DESCRIPTION:The aim is to describe the mathematics associated with electro
 n tomography\, a 3D imaging modality based on electron microscopy data. Fo
 cus  will be on weakly scattering biological specimens\, in which case ele
 ctron tomography becomes a phase contrast tomographic imaging modality. Th
 e emphasis is to (a) introduce the forward model\, (b) describing the inve
 rse problem and its associated difficulties\, and (c) point to some mathem
 atical developments related to addressing these difficulties.
