DESCRIPTION:The approach of optimal control of a chemical reaction has bee
n used to reveal important details of barrier-less photo-induced isomeriza
tion of two cyanine molecules in alcohol solutions. By adaptive excitation
pulse shaping we could expressed the contribution of coherent nuclear mot
ions in these molecules to the outcome of isomerization reactions. We have
also used the novel approach of Pump-Shaped Dump-Probe to visualize the w
ave packet motion on the excited state potential of the isomerizing molecu
 le.
