DESCRIPTION:Dr Paul Webster is Founder and Director of Hardware at Cambrid
ge based Ubisense Ltd.\n\nPaul will explain how different techniques are u
sed to integrate location into the daily operations of businesses across t
he world. Location is needed to track vehicles as they move through a pro
duction process. Live geospatial data is required by field technicians em
ployed by cable and utility companies. Ubisense are now designing systems
and providing location data for Internet of Things applications. The tal
k will give an overview of how to source location data.\n\nPaul is an expe
rienced systems designer and manages the hardware development and manufact
uring team at Ubisense. He studied Computer Science at the University of
Manchester\, where he was awarded the Professor's Prize and the Kilburn Pr
ize for outstanding academic achievement. He went on to receive his PhD i
 n 'Analogue and Mixed-mode Simulation'\, before joining AT&T Laboratories
in Cambridge. There\, he worked on the early systems software and middlew
are for the innovative 'Sentient Computing' project\, exploring potential
applications for location-based computing\, and led a number of sensor-bas
ed projects including a highly reconfigurable 32-bit processor with a nove
l power-optimising tool chain\, a range of pioneering networked appliances
\, and a high-performance low-power wireless module for mobile sensor node
 s.
