DESCRIPTION:To measure an observable of a quantum mechanical system leaves
it \nin one of its eigenstates\, while the result of the measurement will
be \none of its eigenvalues. This process is shown to be a computational
\nresource: it becomes possible\, in principle\, to diagonalize finite Her
mitean matrices by quantum mechanical measurements only. If the zeros of a
\npolynomial are known to be real\, then they can be found by a similar m
 ethod.
