DESCRIPTION:The use of robots has been steadily growing within industry an
 d the domestic environment. To expand the range of potential robotic appli
 cations\, they increasingly need to be autonomous--they need to know their
  location and be able to travel to a chosen destination. This talk will ex
 plore robot localisation\, showing how a probabilistic approach is used. I
 t will examine a variety of methods\, focusing on Monte Carlo localisation
  (particle filter) and how this technique addresses the problem of localis
 ation.
