DESCRIPTION:*Bringing Self-Regulated Learning to Classrooms through Resear
ch-Practice Partnerships*\n\n_A seminar presented by PEDAL and the Faculty
of Education's Psychology & Education group_\n\nThis seminar will focus o
n the role of research-practice partnerships in bringing self-regulated le
arning to classrooms. In her talk\, Dr Perry will review the research-prac
tice framework in two separate research projects\, addressing some of the
challenges associated with traditional approaches to conducting research\,
challenging notions of control and fidelity.\n\nThis seminar hopes to pro
voke fundamental questions about the role research should play in improvin
g educational practice.\n\nDr. Nancy Perry is the Dorothy Lam Chair in Spe
cial Education and Professor of Educational and Counselling Psychology and
Special Education at the University of British Columbia (UBC)\, Canada.\n
\nHer research has two main goals:\n* understanding how classroom processe
s are implicated in children’s development of self-regulated learning (S
RL)\;\n* working with teachers to design activities and structure interact
ions with students that support SRL.\n\nDr. Perry is a main contributor to
our understanding that young children can and do regulate for learning\,
and how classroom tasks\, instructional practices\, and interpersonal rela
tionships influence their SRL. She is also a leader in the development and
use of measures\, beyond self-report tools\, that reveal children’s sel
f-regulation in situ. \n\n*Refreshments will be available.*
