DESCRIPTION:The importance of teaching computing in primary schools is wel
l publicised. Perhaps less well known is the opportunity for professional
engineers and programmers to support this effort in significant ways. Not
only can this support complement existing efforts and expertise within sch
ools\, additionally it can be a hugely rewarding experience for the engine
er. The purpose of this talk is to illustrate how this interaction can suc
cessfully happen\, and hopefully to inspire some attendees on the way.\n\n
Philip Golden is a hardware engineer who graduated from Stanford Universit
y in 2005. His interests include teaching kids to code and promoting compu
 ting in schools.
