DESCRIPTION:Monte Carlo event generators have become indispensable workhor
 ses for particle collider experiments as well as phenomenological studies.
  I \nwill describe state-of-the-art event generator techniques and highlig
 ht \nthe recent development of the Herwig 7 event generator\, with particu
 lar emphasis on improvements of the hard process to include next-to-leadin
 g order QCD in multijet final states. I will also address steps towards pa
 rton shower uncertainties\, and possible future challenges in parton showe
 r development.
