SUMMARY:Mapping the molecular landscape of disease - Erin Oerton (Universi
 ty of Cambridge)

DESCRIPTION:Recent innovations in the fields of genomics and transcriptomi
cs have provided new insight into disease biology at a molecular scale. M
uch of this data is shared in public repositories\, enabling large-scale c
omparative analysis of disease at the molecular level. Such analysis can
reveal shared mechanisms between diseases previously considered to be unre
lated\, improving our understanding of disease biology and pathology. Fu
rther\, shared molecular pathways between diseases can suggest new opportu
nities for drug repositioning (the use of known compounds in new indicatio
ns)\, significantly reducing drug development time compared to de novo dru
g design. In this talk I will outline how different feature spaces of dis
ease can be integrated to associate diseases and drugs at multiple molecul
 ar levels.
