DESCRIPTION:The discovery of exoplanets was one of the most revolutionary
discoveries in human history\, fundamentally changing humanity’s view of
the universe and our place in it. Over the past two decades\, scientists
have largely focused on quantifying the abundance\, mass and location of e
xoplanets. Now\, however\, scientists look beyond mass\, radius and locati
on towards a much more complex and informative scientific experiment\; the
characterisation of exoplanet atmospheres. The Twinkle Space Mission work
s to launch a small low-cost specialised telescope by 2019 that will provi
de unprecedented details of the atmospheres of hundreds of extrasolar plan
ets\, moving humanity towards the detailed understanding of planets beyond
the eight in our solar system.\n\nAll regular talks and obsnights are fre
e to members (or cost £2 for non-members) – membership can be bought (
£12 life\, £7 annual) at any of our regular events.
