DESCRIPTION:Despite being an extraordinarily successful theory\, quantum m
echanics as it stands is incomplete\, because there is no consensus about
how the mathematical formalism can be read as a description of physical re
ality. Consequently\, there exists considerable debate over how we should
'interpret' quantum mechanics – that is\, what it tells us about how the
world really works. PhD student Emily Adlam\, from DAMTP\, will give a qu
ick introduction to quantum mechanics and briefly explain a range of propo
sed interpretations\, including the many-worlds interpretation and the pil
 ot-wave interpretation.
