DESCRIPTION:Diophantine problems in number theory are among some of the ea
siest to state\, and the most difficult to prove. However\, spectacular pr
ogress has been made on some of these problems by translating them to the
theory of dynamical systems. I will explain some of these connections\, in
cluding the Oppenheim conjecture\, Littlewood's conjecture\, and the arith
 metic of elliptic curves.
