DESCRIPTION:Modular representation theory is all about describing represen
tations of groups or algebras over fields of positive characteristic\, whe
n complete reducibility (e.g. Maschke's theorem) fails to hold. In this ta
lk I will introduce a class of interesting representations called tilting
modules\, show some ways in which their structure is much nicer than one m
ight expect\, and conclude with a few (large) unresolved questions and how
one might go about solving them.
