DESCRIPTION:During its first science run Advanced LIGO detected gravitatio
 nal waves from 2 (possibly 3) binary black hole mergers. Here I will discu
 ss the main results of these observations and some of the implications for
  astrophysics and fundamental physics. I will also provide an overview of 
 the plans for the future concerning LIGO and other gravitational-wave inst
 ruments.
