DESCRIPTION:There are close connections between categories\, topological s
paces\, and simplicial sets. We will define effect algebroids\, which are
similar to categories\, and have analogous connections to spaces with an a
ction of the circle group and cyclic sets. Effect algebroids occur for exa
mple in algebraic quantum logic and in the theory of classifying topoi. We
will discuss some of these examples\, and explain the analogies between e
 ffect algebroids and categories.
