DESCRIPTION:The nature\, origin\, and evolution of our species are fundame
 ntal themes of human existence. In this talk\, I will summarize current pa
 leoanthropological and archaeological research into the origins and evolut
 ion of Homo sapiens\, providing an overview of the early biological and cu
 ltural trajectories of our species. I will argue that a joint bio-cultural
  perspective is the way forward in understanding the human story\, providi
 ng an example from my own research.
