DESCRIPTION:Ground-borne noise and vibration in buildings has become an im
 portant matter of concern in crowded cities\, due to the pressure to build
  ever closer to urban railways. Base-isolation has been used since the lat
 e '60s as a possible measure to reduce vibration and re-radiated noise in 
 buildings. Questions remain about the selection of bearing type and how to
  evaluate isolation performance.
