DESCRIPTION:Dirichlet forms have been extensively studied in classical pro
bability theory\nsince their introduction by A. Beurling and J. Deny in tw
o seminal papers.\nIn a sense\, they give the repartition of the energy in
a physical system and\nas such are related to certain partial differentia
l equations\, this connection\nbeing made by the so-called Dirichlet Probl
em. My goal in the first part of\nthe talk will be to introduce them in th
e simple framework of a finite set\nand to make the connection with the as
sociated Markov process on this set.\nThen we will enlarge the study to lo
cally compact metric spaces and we will\nsee how those ideas can be genera
 lized to the non-commutative setting.
