DESCRIPTION:The capacity of optical fibre channels is limited by a nonline
 arity that causes inter-channel phase noise due to amplitude-to-phase conv
 ersion. To better understand the limitations\, a simple model of white pha
 se noise is introduced. Next\, representative lower bounds on fiber capaci
 ty are reviewed and a capacity upper bound is developed. The results exten
 d to multi-mode fibre models.
