DESCRIPTION:As the update window likes to remind us\, "3 billion devices r
 un Java". Many think of Java as a safe\, cosy language\, often for new pro
 grammers. Using examples with surprising behaviour\, this talk will discus
 s how to avoid falling into subtle traps in the Java language\, particular
 ly in arithmetic expressions and class construction. We will also explore 
 how future languages could improve on the design of Java. You will be able
  to take away some Java programming best practice\, and some flaws in its 
 design.
