DESCRIPTION:Design is increasingly being deployed outside of its historica
 lly traditional fields of application - for example to generate business s
 trategy and innovation\, government policy\, or social change. There is an
  argument that this expansion has been driven by the concept of 'design th
 inking' - the essence of designerly practice that can be extracted and app
 lied for innovative results whatever the context.\n\nThis talk will attemp
 t to distinguish rhetoric from reality\, and unpack what design practice o
 ffers to some of these new fields - drawing on real project examples and r
 esearch in this area - and discuss the usefulness of the design thinking c
 oncept.
