DESCRIPTION:A few years ago\, Amazon set out to build the Star Trek comput
 er. Today\, we’ve launched Amazon Alexa in three countries\, and million
 s of customers use Alexa every day. At the start\, the technology we neede
 d didn’t exist\, so we had to invent it. In this talk\, I’ll tell you 
 about some of the NLP and AI challenges we’ve had to solve. I’ll also 
 explain how Alexa’s far-field voice technology has unlocked a new way fo
 r our customers to interact with services\, from Amazon and third parties\
 , via the AWS cloud. I’ll bring an Amazon Echo\, so that I can demonstra
 te Alexa and you can have a go for yourself. I’ll also bring some of the
  team\, so you can find out what it’s like to work as a scientist or eng
 ineer at Amazon’s Cambridge development centre.
