DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\nDisclosure risk occurs when there is a high probabi
lity that an intruder can identify an individual in released sample microd
ata and confidential information may be revealed. A probabilistic modellin
g framework based on the Poisson log-linear model is demonstrated for quan
tifying disclosure risk in terms of population uniqueness when population
counts are unknown. This method does not account for measurement error ari
sing either naturally from survey processes or purposely introduced as a p
erturbative disclosure limitation technique. The probabilistic modelling f
ramework for assessing disclosure risk is expanded to take into account th
e misclassification/ perturbation and demonstrated on sample microdata whi
ch has undergone a perturbation procedure. Finally\, we adapt the probabil
istic modelling framework to assess the disclosure risk of non-random samp
les from sub-populations and show some initial results.\n\nThis is joint w
ork with Prof. Chris Skinner of the London School of Economics and Politic
al Science.\n\nNatalie Shlomo is Professor of Social Statistics at the Uni
versity of Manchester and currently an organiser of the programme Data Lin
kage and Anonymisation at the Isaac Newton Institute of Mathematical Scien
ces. Her research interests are in survey methodology and official statist
ics. She is the UK principle investigator for several collaborative grants
from the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union all involving rese
arch in improving survey methods and dissemination. She is an elected memb
er of the International Statistical Institute and a fellow of the Royal St
atistical Society.\n\nAll welcome! Refreshments will be served before the
talk.\n\nThere are two spare tickets for dinner with the speaker after the
event. If you would like to come to hall at Trinity with Prof Shlomo\, pl
ease RSVP to Khyla (kk538) by 3pm Saturday.
