DESCRIPTION:To date we have established exhaustive correlations between th
e lipid composition of membranes and its impact on membrane properties and
protein function. In addition to composition the shape of cellular membra
nes appears to be a well-conserved phenotype in evolution. Nevertheless we
largely ignore what are the consequences of membrane shape/curvature to b
iological functions that make it so critical for sustaining life. Here I w
ill discuss published and unpublished data from in vitro and living cell e
xperiments on several important classes of biomolecules whose localization
\, structure or function exhibited dramatic curvature dependence including
  i) GPCRs and ii) membrane anchored proteins like Ras.
