ing systems. - Sarah Bohndiek (University of Cambridge)

DESCRIPTION:Oxygen supply and demand in tumours are intricately linked wit
h disease progression\, particularly in hormone sensitive tissues such as
the breast and prostate. At present\, there are few non-invasive methods w
ith which we can reveal the spatiotemporal distribution of this process no
n-invasively. In this talk\, I will focus on the use of photoacoustic imag
ing to: track the formation of new blood vessels in tumours using the abso
rption of light by haemoglobin\; and probe levels of oxidative stress in c
ancer cells using a targeted photoacoustic contrast agent. I will conclude
with future perspectives on clinical translation of this emerging new tec
 hnology.
