DESCRIPTION:This seminar presents results from a large-scale\, multi-phase
d\, mixed-method research that seeks to examine young people’s wellbeing
in Kazakhstan. In the first part of this seminar Dr. Daniel Torrano\, Dr.
Ros McLellan and Dr. Liz Winter will put forward a statistically ratified
model of psychological and overall wellbeing\, which has been developed o
ver several phases of fieldwork in Kazakhstan\, in order to prompt a discu
ssion of its strengths and limitations. \n\nThe second part of the seminar
will be presented by Dr. Eva Brown Hajdukova who will reflect on the emer
gent themes of young people’s discourses on wellbeing in order to expose
the factors young people perceive to be important in their lives. The com
bined approaches of large-scale and detailed analyses will be the central
focus of this seminar in order to promote an integrated approach to repres
enting and assessing young people’s wellbeing that combines both sensiti
vity and overall validity. \n\nFrom 2015 the Faculty of Education and Naza
rbayev University Graduate School of Education have partnered to examine y
oung people’s wellbeing and school engagement in secondary schools in Ka
zakhstan. Funding is provided by the Newton-Al-Farabi Partnership Programm
