DESCRIPTION:Overview: Offshore wind is the most scalable of the renewable
technologies and has the potential to have a major impact on decarbonising
energy infrastructure to help mitigate climate change. In the UK there a
re ambitious targets to increase installed and operational capacity by 202
 0. Driving down the cost of foundations and effectively managing the unce
rtainties presented by the ground are imperatives for continued investment
in offshore wind.\nThis presentation gives an overview of how the ground
risks and key foundation design and installation challenges can be practic
ally managed\, drawing from the presenter's project experience. The prese
ntation will focus on three principal aspects critical to lowering cost\,
improving constructability and managing ground risk\, namely efficient sit
e investigation and ground modelling\, efficient and reliable design\, and
reliable installation assessments.\n\nBiography: Sébastien Manceau is a
Chief Geotechnical Engineer with over sixteen year experience of working i
n multi-disciplinary teams across a range of sectors including infrastruct
ure and energy. Within Atkins Ground Engineering business\, he is the Tec
hnical Authority for Offshore Geotechnics focusing on the renewables and o
il and gas sectors. He has significant experience in offshore site invest
igations and foundation design for offshore windfarms at all stages of pro
jects development. Recent and current work includes the Beatrice and Dudg
eon offshore windfarms.\n\n\nFurther information are available on http://s
