factors - Professor Majid Ezzati\, Imperial College London

DESCRIPTION:Observational and randomised studies have established the impo
rtance of adiposity\, height\, diabetes\, and elevated blood pressure and
lipids as risk factors for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs)\, and these risk
factors are targets of population-based and individual interventions. \n\
nAt this seminar Professor Majid Ezzati\, Chair in Global Environmental He
alth\, Faculty of Medicine\, School of Public Health\, Imperial College Lo
ndon\, will present the work of Non-Communicable Disease Risk Factor Colla
boration (NCD-RisC www.ncdrisc.org). This global network of health scienti
sts provides rigorous estimates of NCD risk factors by pooling population-
based data from around the world. The presentation will have particular fo
cus on whether the worldwide rise in adiposity is associated with an incre
ase in other major CVD risks\, and the implications for population health.
\n\nChaired by Professor Nick Wareham\, Director of the MRC Epidemiology
Unit and co-Director of the Institute of Metabolic Science. \n
