DESCRIPTION:Because Bacteriophages are safe\, selective and effective in k
illing pathogenic bacteria without changing the characteristics of food pr
oducts\, they are a suitable measure for the prevention of foodborne zoono
ses. Using bacteriophages in primary production for the reduction of patho
genic bacteria aims at reducing the target bacteria in the intestina flora
of commercial livestock. First field trials were carried out to reduce Ca
mpylobacter in commercial broiler flocks and among practical consideration
s\, population dynamics of the intestinal flora have to be considered for
such application strategies. We will present results from field trials and
experiences on these issues of phage application.
