DESCRIPTION:Until the first part of the 20th century\, honey dressings wer
e part of routine wound care practice. With the introduction of antibiotic
s in the 1930s and 1940s\, views began to change and honey was somewhat fo
rgotten about. It fell out of fashion. Over the years misuse of antibiotic
s\, the emergence of resistant bacteria\, and increasing interest in thera
peutic honey have provided \nan opportunity for honey to be re-established
as a broad-spectrum\, antibacterial agent for use in the treatment of wou
nds. It is in around 90% of wound care formularies UK wide. I will talk ab
out Manuka honey and its use in healing complex wounds.\n
